All of us are descended from our ancestors in Africa and, therefore, we are the fruit of multiple migratory movements. Human beings have always been pushed to move for very different reasons: from the desire to discover new places, for love, to share knowledge or skills or to flee from hunger, war or persecution. This is how different cultures have been formed and this is how our current multicultural societies have been constituted. The girls and boys in this book come from all over the world and speak different languages, but they all now live in Spain. Some have just arrived, others have been born here. Samira arrived with her family in a boat and in a truck to Germany, fleeing the war in Syria, and then they were taken in by a cousin of her father in Spain. Amad misses the friends with whom he played soccer in Iraq, but now he has new friends with whom he plays soccer here. Aziza was born in Spain, where her mother came years ago to look for work from Rabat, but she speaks perfectly Dariya and likes to celebrate the sugar festival with her family. Yousri's father is Afghan and came here to study mechanical engineering, but he ended up becoming a conductor. Natalia's mother is Russian, but she fell in love with a Spaniard and ended up settling in Spain, where Natalia was born. Cultural diversity can be very enriching, but sometimes it is also a source of problems caused by ignorance and prejudice. And that is why, to ensure a good coexistence, there is nothing better than getting to know our neighbors with our children, as proposed in this book.
Todas las personas descendemos de nuestros antepasados en África y, por lo tanto, somos el fruto de múltiples movimientos migratorios. Desde siempre los seres humanos se han visto empujados a trasladarse por motivos muy diferentes: desde el deseo de conocer nuevos lugares, por amor, para compartir saberes o habilidades o para huir del hambre, la guerra o la persecución. Así se han ido formando las diferentes culturas y así se han ido constituyendo nuestras sociedades multiculturales actuales. Las niñas y niños de este libro proceden de todas partes del mundo y hablan diferentes lenguas, pero todos viven ahora en España. Algunos acaban de llegar, otros han nacido aquí. Samira llegó con su familia en una barca y en un camión hasta Alemania, huyendo de la guerra en Siria, y luego fueron acogidos por un primo de su padre en España. Amad echa de menos a los amigos con los que jugaba a fútbol en Irak, pero ahora tiene nuevos amigos con los que juega a fútbol aquí. Aziza nació en España, donde su madre vino hace años a buscar trabajo desde Rabat, pero habla perfectamente dariya y le gusta celebrar la fiesta del azúcar con su familia. El padre de Yousri es afgano y vino aquí a estudiar ingeniería mecánica, pero acabó haciéndose director de orquesta. La madre de Natalia es rusa, pero se enamoró de un español y acabó estableciéndose en España, donde nació Natalia. La diversidad cultural puede ser muy enriquecedora, pero a veces también es fuente de problemas originados por el desconocimiento y los prejuicios. Y es por eso que, para asegurar una buena convivencia, no hay nada mejor que conocer con nuestros hijos a nuestros vecinos y vecinas, tal como se nos propone en este libro.
